Desert Operations; Infiltration
"Stalk like a lion; sting like a scorpion; vanish like a mirage."
Sand-Vipers are trained and equipped to operate in deserts as hostile to human life as the Sahara and the Mojave. The ability to endure high temperature, blistering sun, and total lack of water is the prime requirement for a Sand-Viper candidate. In addition to total proficiency with the entire range of Cobra small arms, the Sand-Viper is expected to maintain and repair his weapons under conditions that are highly destructive to finely machined metal parts. His body armor is capable of deflecting shrapnel and most pistol bullets. The armor is actually the outer layer of a watertight suit that retains, purifies and recycles body moisture to keep them cool and hydrated. The suit allows Sand-Vipers to function in extremely arid environments for extended periods without a re-supply of water. They are capable of infiltrating desert areas that most troops can't even survive.
Sand-Vipers were organized as a unit in 2003.
Sand-Vipers are available on the MUX as Disposable Characters, with a much simpler application. They can also be apped directly as full character (format: Sand-Viper 1234), or upgraded from DCs to OCs.
Desert-Vipers use nanomite technology. Sand-Vipers use stillsuits. Sand Scorpions are Sand-Vipers who have had their DNA altered for hostile environments. Each group thinks they are the best desert-environment division. Desert CLAWS troops often work closely with Sand Scorpions and Sand-Vipers, providing heavy weapons support.
