MUX Etiquette

Entering a room

When a character enters a new area, either through a move command (<N>orth, <W>est, whatever) or by connecting, it's polite for whomever is already in the area to pose what they are doing, and what's going on -- and not to react to the new player until that player has posed actually entering the room. Example:

Command Center

A big room with flashing monitors.

Contents:

Optimus Prime has arrived.

Typhoon is sitting at a console, downloading reports.

Optimus Prime strides into the room, trumpets blaring with his theme music.

This procedure prevents things like this:

Command Center

A big room with flashing monitors.

Contents:

Typhoon

Optimus Prime has arrived.

Optimus Prime strides into the room. Seeing Typhoon, he walks up to her. "Typhoon. Report."

Typhoon is lying on the floor of the command center. Consoles are smashed, and Ty is obviously unconscious, fluids leaking from several large holes in her armor.

<OOC> Optimus Prime says, "Oops. Scratch my last pose. Obviously, I wouldn't walk up and demand she report..."

Or, likewise, a situation where Ty greets Prime chirpingly, only to see that he's stumbled in, badly injured. When someone new arrives, pose what's going on. Then, let the person pose entering before you react to them.
